Snoring is a great topic for a joke unless you are the person who sleeps with a snorer. People snore for a variety of reasons, but for their partner what can become an endearing, occasional habit can rapidly become a cause for insomnia and difficulties in the relationship. The ironic thing about snoring is that the person who is doing it is usually totally unaware that they are doing it until they are woken by their partner.
Nine times out of ten, the snorer will feel as if they have been rudely awoken from their blissful sleep by their partner, and feel hard done by, regardless of the fact that the other person has been struggling to fall asleep on the double mattress for however long. It is an accumulation of nights like these that lead to arguments and the bedroom becomes less of a haven and more of a war zone.
So how should the snorer and the partner of a snorer deal with the condition, usually known as sleep apnoea, before one person moves into another room? Examine lifestyle and how making changes to diet and habits can help. Being overweight can be a primary cause of snoring, as can having late evening meals which are too rich or heavy or consist mainly of dairy. Too much alcohol before bed and smoking are also contributors to snoring. Happily, tackling these will not only help both people get a better night’s sleep but also make for a healthier body and mind.
In the meantime, encouraging your snoring partner to sleep on their side if they snore on their back and buying earplugs will help everyone to get better sleep. If your double mattress isn’t big enough, buying a super king mattress can help because a super king mattress will give you enough space to get away from the snoring. You must take action against sleep apnoea before it leads to serious health problems and serious marital problems.
Sweet dreams!
