Many pieces of jewellery are considered to be highly valuable and this makes them an attractive target for thieves. Also, their extremely portable nature and small size means they can be easy for people to take away during robberies. This is one of the reasons why retailers specialising in offering fashion jewellery and other such products often invest in good security systems.
However, these systems do not always work and sometimes criminals make off with items without paying for them. Recently, police in France found a number of such products in a gutter. A set of 19 rings and three pairs of earrings were found in a plastic container in the drain of a house in the country’s capital Paris.
They are thought to be from a shop that was targeted in the city more than two years ago and their combined value runs into millions of pounds. In total, thieves got away with over £50 million worth of jewellery items during the heist, meaning the case received a lot of attention in the French press.
It was also notable because it took place in a particularly prestigious area of Paris and because some of the men involved were disguised as women when they targeted the retail outlet. In total, three-quarters of the pieces that were taken have been recovered.
Of course, it is not only shops that can become the victims of thieves. For example, when consumers purchase fashion jewellery and other such offerings, they are also generally advised to keep them safe. Indeed, if they are worth a great deal of money, some such products may require insurance separate to normal house cover.By being savvy and taking the necessary precautions, people can help ensure they are not left out of pocket due to criminals taking their items during burglaries.
