Rather than randomly picking a cleaning agent, you will need to determine the specific fabric your sofa is made from. Once you have determined the exact fabric, you can then purchase the proper high grade shampoo appropriate for the fabric.

You will need a cleaning device appropriate for the task. A high quality rug cleaner with an attachment for cleaning sofas would be the best device to rent. Again, you want to acquire a high performance cleaner as this will ensure the job is done properly while reducing the potential for spots, watermarks, and other flaws to rear their heads.

Clean a small area of the sofa to determine whether or not the cleaner works to your specifications. If it does, then clean the sofa thoroughly. Remove the cushions and clean them separately.

Sofas and the cushions will need to completely and properly dry after a cleaning. Upon drying, you may wish to repeat the entire process if you feel this would be necessary.
