When you think of a lift for your TV, you probably imagine some high-tech device carrying your TV out of the ground or a sliding picture moving to reveal the TV. While those do exist, those aren’t the only kind of lifts out there.
What are the different kinds of TV lifts?
Mechanical – You’ve probably seen it in movies before, but these do exist and they’re not particularly cheap. This can be done by a mechanical arm or lift and is usually to hide TVs underground or in a wall somewhere. There are many various uses of a mechanical lift but here’s how it works. You press a button, and the TV is lifted by the mechanical arm into position.
Homemade – These are the most cost-effective but they don’t particularly look the best. These can just be wood fittings that are made large enough to hold your TV above a dresser, on the wall, or where ever you choose to hold it in place.
Wall TV Lifts – These are the most common kinds of lifts and usually require you to drill a hole into your wall to hold it in place which is why I don’t recommend them. If you’re absolutely certain that your TV isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, then by all means go for it, but I’m the type of person who likes to rearrange the living room a lot. What you do is, screw the arm or lift it into the wall then you set it on the lift which will hold it in place.
Stands – Most computer monitors come standard with them these days, they’re just simply as the name says they are small stands that hold the TV up. They’re connected to the bottom or middle of the TV and hold it in place. These were made for monitors and TVs alike because they were becoming thinner and couldn’t support the weight of just sitting there.
There are many different types of TV lifts and which one will be best for you will depend on location and how much you’re willing to spend on one.
