People are not always quite sure exactly what costume jewellery is, often becoming confused as to if there is a difference between it and fashion jewellery, and indeed sometimes as to what defines either.
The main way to understand if something comes under this bracket or not is to understand what the item is made from. Costume jewellery will be made from non-precious materials, so anything containing silver, gold or real gems or pearls will not come under this category.
People often feel that this type of item will therefore either be ugly and look cheap or will simply not be hardwearing enough and break after just a few times of being worn. However, this is not so, and most items will actually imitate more alluring jewellery and in turn look far more expensive than it really is.
The benefit of this over other types of fashion jewellery is that you can buy numerous different items to perfectly compliment different outfits without it costing you much at all. Whilst it may not be used to replace precious jewellery it can be used to compliment it and finish off outfits in the perfect way. It can also be simply a fun way to accessorise and give you much more scope than many other forms of accessory will be able to.
Other people use more gaudy versions of this type of accessory to make a statement. Items can range from very subtle to very over the top versions and therefore there is even more scope to create not only great looking outfits but also individual styles.
So if you have shied away from buying such items in the past, don’t feel that they will be detrimental to outfits, but instead try embracing these items and you may well just find you can achieve far more with them than you can without.
