Every month whether you’re looking at your full internet marketing plan or your PPC campaigns you’ll want to start with high energy. With pay-per-click advertising, there are some simple steps you can take to add some pep to the account performance. You’ll still need to focus on ongoing optimization throughout the month but by loading up the start of the month with these steps you’ll feel the benefits:
1. List your top ten keywords. You can identify them by running a report which is likely to spew out hundreds of terms for analysis. Don’t get swamped. Simply highlight the ones that are most valuable and track their performance. Note down how things could run better. This may mean amending ad texts, adapting bids, changing the structure of ad groups, and searching for negative keywords.
2. Test your landing pages. The easiest way to look for those that are underperforming is to run a URL report. The removal of weak performers will then push more traffic to the better performers.
3. For ads running on the Content Network if you use AdWords a placement performance report can help to track the website that has the most disappointing conversion rates. It will also highlight the largest cost-per-lead. Focus on the bottom 5 sites.
4. There is always room to expand the keyword listing. Look for places on the website where more ad groups can be added in. The real in-depth keyword research can wait until later on but for now, identify core terms and phrases which you can build upon later.
When managing your PPC account there are plenty more jobs to be done but these four will ramp up performance quickly.
